NOTE: if you don’t have any experience writing with a Pointed Pen, please enrol in my Introductory Course and its companion, the Online Webinar in English or Spanish. These are two related but independent products, you can take them together or separately at your convenience.
In this course, you will learn how to write in a beautiful Modern Calligraphy Simple Style, ideal for beginners. You can write it straight as it is shown in the handouts, or use your natural slant (angle).
Each lesson will approach a different topic:
- Lesson 1 – Basic Materials and Letter formation
- Lesson 2 – Minuscules (lower case)
- Lesson 3 – Practice with Minuscules
- Lesson 4 – Majuscules (capitals)
- Lesson 5 – Punctuation and Numbers
- Lesson 6 – A Christmas Card project
I present the letter formation in groups of shared strokes to facilitate the mastering of the basic strokes by repetition. Only at the end of each module, the letters will appear in alphabetical order. Practice with words and phrases will help you to achieve consistency in your style. It is not compulsory but advisable to share your practice with me here and ask for feedback; I will love to help you to succeed in your calligraphy goal.
Pencil or pen? You can start practising the exercises with a 2B pencil, but I highly recommend to use a pointed nib as soon as you feel confident with the letter formation. As much as you practice with a calligraphy pen, better will be your writing.
Basic calligraphy kit: a pointed nib, straight pen holder, good quality paper and fountain pen ink. All the information about recommended brands is on our Introductory Course. The shops we use and recommend are Scribblers and Penman Direct. You will also need the following items: a water pot and a piece of cotton fabric or kitchen paper to clean your nib from time to time during your practice, a 2B pencil, a sharpener, a rubber and a ruler in case you want to pencil your own guidelines.
Put your new skills to work! At the end of this course, you can do a simple project following the step-by-step instructions. The Christmas card presented can be adapted to make any other kind of card, enjoy and share your enthusiasm with your loved ones.
I hope you enjoy learning this Modern Calligraphy Simple Style. Please contact me at [email protected] if you need extra guidance or have any question. I will be happy to help!
