How to make a nib holder roll

How do you store your nibs? Make your own homemade nib holder roll

If you are like me, you are always buying nibs just because you cannot resist the temptation. They are shiny, pretty and affordable, so why not? One by one, you will collect such a stock that is difficult to manage. You need a storage solution that provides easy access and protect your nibs at the same time. Talking about protecting your nibs… Stay tuned, there will be an article about ways of looking after your calligraphy pens next week.

Back to this post, for me, the decorative little tins I have been using since I started calligraphy, were not practical anymore and looking for a better solution, I remembered seeing a roll that used curtain tape to hold the nibs but I couldn’t remember where. So, I made up this one, using recycled fabric and curtain tape leftovers, and I am very happy with how it came up.  Of course, I have so many nibs that I ended needing four rolls, but they are easy to make and I managed to finish them all in one afternoon. If you don’t have any fabric or curtain tape, you can purchase them in Hobbycraft or any other haberdashery.

I hope you will try it and I would love to hear what you think of this idea!

Not feeling crafty? Don’t worry, you will be able to purchase this nib holder roll from my online shop.

  3. Place the second piece of fabric on top of the first, with the backside of the second fabric facing you. Sew around the edges of both pieces of fabric, making sure to leave an open space at the top to later turn the product inside out. Additionally, sew ribbons twice to reinforce them.Sewing the roll
  4. Turn the roll inside out, and hand-stitch to close the top part.

And that is all, you have now the perfect storage solution for your nibs. Enjoy your new nib holder roll!
